COASTAL COMMUNITIES AND ECONOMIES

MARINAS

Marinas and the boating population are a traditional audience for Sea Grant. Under a Cornell University non-point source control and education initiative, Lake Champlain Sea Grant recently developed voluntary best management practices for Lake Champlain marinas. This is now a module in Cornell's LEAPE (Local Environmental Action to Protect the Environment) used to inform municipal officials throughout northern NY on best management practices to control non point source pollution in their communities http://www.css.cornell.edu/leape/
/Overview.htm

We provided training in safe paint removal and painting practices to marina operators and their staff in Vermont and New York as part of their required pesticide applicator's certification. We also use MarinaNet, the National Sea Grant Marina Network, to help promote clean marinas and educate the boating public.
