AQUATIC NUISANCE SPECIES
Understanding and reducing the threat of aquatic nuisance and invasive species, such as zebra mussels, water milfoil, and water chestnut, is one of our continuing areas of activity. We recently completed an educational effort to help prevent the spread of aquatic nuisance species from Lake Champlain. We also locally filmed and produced a video on aquatic species, as well as a 30-second television spot that was viewed by an estimated 46,000 households. Other accomplishments included the distribution of informational materials on aquatic nuisance species to more than 5,000 stakeholders and resource centers. With a new grant, Sea Grant will be starting a water chestnut education effort in the near future.
