Plant of the Month: Hosta 'Bressingham Blue', Plantain Lily/Funkia

family: Liliaceae, lily

height x width: 24" x 24"

flowers: white, mid-summer

hardiness: USDA zones 4-8

interest: *nice blue-green foliage, more blue earlier in season
*excellent as most hostas are for shade, under trees to compete with roots
*nice contrast in foliage to adjacent yellow-leaved, white-leaved or variegated plants
*possibly a cross between H. sieboldiana and H. tokudama
*from Bressingham Gardens and Nurseries, Norfolk, England (see links page for web site)

*Viola labradorica-- Labradorian Violet, USDA zones 3-8, full sun in north to part shade, spreads gently, blue flowers against nice dark bronze-green foliage through season
