The mission of the Office of Health Promotion Research is to further knowledge and understanding of health promotion and disease prevention through the development of theory-based rigorously controlled research in health education and health promotion.
Our research program is focused on five important areas at this time: tobacco control through smoking prevention and smoking cessation, the promotion and surveillance of effective breast cancer screening, AIDS prevention, diabetes prevention, and reducing alcohol use by youth. These research projects grew out of earlier ones which we have carried out since the early 1980s.
