Left Hand PositionThe left hand must be free to move around the instrument. Learning the correct position for the hand, wrist, thumb and fingers is critical for being able to play in tune and with dexterity. Taking left hand technique to an advanced level involves the removal of tension and excess motion. This can take years to master, but the beginning stages are absolutely critical for success. While bad habits are never impossible to break, it is much easier to learn to play correctly from the beginning.
