Desktop management

Objectives, course requirements, computer hardware, software and network use will be discussed. Desktop design and protocols will be demonstrated and explored.

Discussion of issues surrounding the use of computers in education. Distribution of reading and e-talk discussion.

How to use computers to format disks, locate applications,use the control panel, print and access the university network. Getting an E-mail account.

Word Processing Plus

Use of PINE as a university and universal electronic mail vehicle.Use of address book, distribution lists, compose messages, forward mail, delete messages, find e-mail addresses.

Word processing techniques on ClarisWorks 4.0. This includes the use of margins, tabs, columns, spellchecker, cut & paste, printing, saving & retrieving files.

Adding clip art and use of the draw-on features of ClarisWorks to produce charts, diagrams, worksheets, maps, and reports.

Working with Grapics

Design your dream classroom

How to use the drawing and painting programs of Clarisworks to create original art and import these into word processing and other documents. Use of a digital camera and scanner.

Using the word processing program of ClarisWorks, students will learn how to work with columns, insert text and pictures to create a newsletter.

Telecommunications projects and procedures will be introduced that provide an opportunity to extend classroom boundaries. Students will learn how to access LUIS., the library research system.

Developing, sorting and searching databases to arrange and isolate specific data.

Using the spreadsheet program of Clarisworks to maintain a gradebook and budget.

Learn how to take data from a spreadsheet and convert it into line, pie, or bar graphs and how to include these in a wordprocessed document.

Students will have a chance to look at a number of programs that have applications in the K-12 classroom. They will select one program to review and critique.
