Burlington, Vermont: Intervale Avenue. This photograph was taken by Louis McAllister c.1930.

This photograph was taken from the corner of Intervale Avenue and Oak Street looking at the opposite corner of Intervale Avenue. The address of the building in the center is 184/186 Intervale Ave. The other identifiable buildings are 714/716 Riverside Avenue to the left of184/186 Intervale Ave and 178/180 Intervale Avenue to the right,. The building to the left of the photograph (714/716 Riverside Avenue) is wood clapboard sided flat-roofed structure with four-over four bay double-hung two-over-one windows. There is an elevated porch/walkway attached to this building with a wood railing. Under this porch/walkway there is a crawl space boarded up with lattice. The central building in the photograph, (184/186 Intervale Ave) has a raised sidewalk attached to the left side of the structure; there are two barrels and a crate sitting on this walkway. The left facade has four bays asymmetrically placed, they consist of two four-over-one double-hung windows, a small multi-pane window, and a vent. Situated just above the multi-pane window half way between the first and second floors is a sign that reads Saiger’s Groceries/Orange Crush. The front facade has two sets of double four-over-one windows on the second story which denotes the apartments. Below the windows is a stripped awning that is folded back into the wall. Double four pane display windows flank the main entrance door. To the left of the main entrance is another door which most likely leads to the apartments above. Product displays can be seen through the windows at the front. To the right of the main facade is a one story addition, there is another stripped awning, and a screen door to the left of the addition and another display window to the right of the door. There is a narrow alley that separates 184/186 Intervale Ave from 178/180 Intervale Avenue. Only this left facade and a small portion of the front facade of 178/180 Intervale Avenue can be seen. There are two two-over-two windows on the second story, and a vertically paneled wood door below them. Part of a door and another two-over-two window can be seen on the front facade. A utility poll is in the center of the photograph.
