• Uncle Tom at 150: A Survey of the Criticism of Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin

• Class hand-out to accompany above paper: Selected Quotes from Criticism of Uncle Tom's Cabin

• For the second and third assignments I studied Godey's Lady's Book, the famous 19th century American magazine "for ladies." Most of that work has become part of the Godey's Lady's Book Web Site. Portions that were developed specifically for this class are a publication summary, and brief biographies of its publisher, Louis A. Godey and its editor, Sarah J. Hale.
