Mindfulness Practice Center
was started in 1998 to offer mindfulness meditation instruction and
practice to the students, faculty, and staff of the University of
Vermont, as well as to the larger community. The center is founded on
the belief that mindfulness, the simple act of being present for one's
experience, can help UVM community members cope with the many
challenges of academic life, bringing greater fullness, freedom, and
compassion into their lives. The center emphasizes a non-sectarian
approach to mindfulness, drawing on the contemplative practices of a
variety of traditions. We offer a range of meditation opportunities,
from weekly sittings to stress management workshops to one day
retreats. In addition, we occasionally stage special events, having
brought to UVM such well known speakers on meditation as Jon Kabat-Zinn
and Thich Naht Hanh. Drafted on December 14, 2001 by the Mindfulness Practice Center Steering Committee. |
