Media outlets are full of bad news about the economy and many students are worried about job prospects. If you are worried and want to feel better, keep reading.

There is good news

Every year UVM Career Services works with employers who post jobs and visit campus, specifically to hire UVM students. Most of those employers are still hiring. Many students have yet to take advantage of these on campus visits, our alumni network, and the range of services we offer to help in your job search, so now is the time to get started!

Year 1: Adjust

  • Get involved on- or off-campus
  • Study!
Year 2: Explore and experiment
  • Evaluate your likes, skills
  • Learn what jobs exist
  • Think about internships
  • Draft a resume
Year 3: Focus
  • Focus on areas of career interest
  • Gain experience (intern, research, etc.)
  • Develop relationships (faculty, alums, etc.)
  • Refine your resume
  • Write a cover letter
Year 4: Seek your path
  • Apply to jobs or graduate schools
  • Request and attend interviews
  • Evaluate offers
  • Accept a position or school commitment
