Assignments & Announcements:
  1. Contact your group members for the Group Critical Analysis presentation and Practice.
  2. Bring Flash Drive (2+ Gigs) to lab when you present.
  3. Check Syllabus speaking schedule for when you are reading and your lab role.
  4. Outside Speech Critique assignment.  UVM lecture calendar site.
  5. Next Week, no lectures or labs: Spring Break (Mon March 2 - Fri March 6)

Tips From TAs:

  1. Follow the Critique Sheets!  Objective must be stated.  Preview must be clear.  PRACTICE!
  2. Objectives must say how the audience will be changed: "I'm going to talk to you about rock climbing" is NOT an objective.  "After my presentation you will know the basics of rock climbing" is an objective.
  3. Restate must knows must be SPECIFIC (not categorical).
  4. Don't read from notes - use an outline, avoid trailing off voice and filler words.
  5. Use natural hand gestures, do not stand like a statue.  Stand out from behind the desk - whole body should be visible (have speaker's aid advance slides if necessary).
  6. Have a STRONG ENDING separate from the restate must knows.
  7. PAUSE FOR EFFECT!
  8. DRESS - conservative & more formal than usual.
  9. It is YOUR responsibility to set up the technology - not the TAs.  Set up BEFORE lab starts.
  10. When your presentation is over.  Remain in place for questions.
  11. Everyone is expected to arrive early and stay the whole time - go to the bathroom before lab.
  12. Source any facts that are not common knowledge.
  13. Repeat questions asked at the end of your presentation.
