Please put away all electronic devices (laptops, smart phones, Ipods, etc.) and take out something to write with and paper.

Tips From the TAS:

  1. **** FOLLOW THE CRITIQUE SHEETS **** and practice in front of friends and get feedback!  Have them TIME you.
  2. PREPARE - practice at least three times in front of friends and get feedback.  Keep reading from notes to a minimum (just a glance).
  3. PAUSE for effect - should be obvious - two seconds of silence.
  4. Proof read your reflection papers, and follow the checklist.
  5. Objectives (how the audience will be changed) must be clear in both your presentations and reflection papers!  For example: "After my presentation you will ____________ "
  6. Arrive a few minutes early for lab - you should be in your seat ready to participate when lab begins.  If you are late or leave early -1% off course grade for each lateness or early exit.
  7. For Persuasive Presentations there must be Clear Audience Action (After my presentation you will ___do something_____) and there needs to be Mental Dialog (anticipating audience objection  "I know what some of you are thinking...").
  8. Explain the source of any information that is not common knowledge.

Assignments & Announcements:

  1. Practice your choice presentations in front of others and get feedback.
  2. Check Syllabus (CALS 001, CALS 183) speaking schedule for when you are presenting and your lab role.
  3. CALS 001 students, visit with your academic advisor and have them sign the Advisor Meeting Form, and Join a club or organization.
