Please put away all electronic devices (laptops, smart phones, Ipods, etc.) and take out something to write with and paper.

Tips From the TAS:

  1. **** FOLLOW THE CRITIQUE SHEETS **** and practice in front of friends and get feedback!  Have them TIME you.
  2. PREPARE - practice at least three times in front of friends and get feedback.  Keep reading from notes to a minimum (just a glance).
  3. PAUSE for effect - should be obvious - two seconds of silence.
  4. Proof read your reflection papers, and follow the checklist.
  5. Objectives (how the audience will be changed) must be clear in both your presentations and reflection papers!  For example: "After my presentation you will ____________ "
  6. Arrive a few minutes early for lab - you should be in your seat ready to participate when lab begins.  If you are late -1% off course grade for each lateness.
  7. Keep Presentation and Detailed outlines separate: Detailed outline is everything you considered including in your presentation (could be multiple pages), Presentation outline is just what you will present (single page, big font).
  8. Explain the source of any information that is not common knowledge.

Assignments & Announcements:

  1. Practice your persuasive and choice presentations in front of others and get feedback.
  2. Check Syllabus (CALS 001, CALS 183) speaking schedule for when you are presenting and your lab role.
  3. Outside Speech Critique assignment.  DUE in lab this week!  If late -10% the first week, -20% the second week, no credit there after! UVM lecture calendar site.
  4. Formal Introductions in Lecture will begin NEXT WEEK (Oct 26 - 30).
  5. CALS 001 students, visit with your academic advisor and have them sign the Advisor Meeting Form.  Join a club or organization.
