Please put away all electronic devices (laptops, smart phones, Ipods, etc.) and take out something to write with and paper.

Tips From the TAS:

  1. **** FOLLOW THE CRITIQUE SHEETS **** and practice in front of friends and get feedback!  Have them TIME you.
  2. Dress: No Yoga Pants (unless doing a presentation on Yoga).
  3. Reflection papers should be word-processed, printed, and stapled.
  4. Bring Flash Drive when presenting.
  5. Use visuals when appropriate - check out AV a day or two ahead, it is your responsibility to know the AV, not the TAs.
  6. Hook: Asking for a show of hands as a hook is getting old.  Be more creative.
  7. Body Language: avoid crossing legs, leaning on or hiding behind furniture.
  8. End with "Thank You!", not "That's about it"
  9.  Label everything in the reflection folder.

Assignments & Announcements:

  1. Practice your group and persuasive presentations in front of others and get feedback.
  2. Check Syllabus (CALS 001, CALS 183) speaking schedule for when you are presenting and your lab role.
  3. Outside Speech Critique assignment.  DUE  NEXT WEEK in lab!  Leave time for draft editing by lab mate! UVM lecture calendar site.
  4. Formal Introductions in Lecture will begin in two weeks (Oct 26 - 30).
  5. CALS 001 students, visit with your academic advisor and have them sign the Advisor Meeting Form.  Join a club or organization.

 
LECTURE:

Informational and Persuasive Presentations suggested order of things to do:
   1. Mind Map first draft
   2. Research your topic
   3. Detailed Outline
   4. Mind Map second draft
   5. Presentation outline (big font, one sheet)
   6. Practice at least three times in front of friends and get feedback
   7. GIVE YOUR PRESENTATION 
   8. View your presentation, read peer evaluations, reflect
   9. Write your reflection paper
  10. Assemble your reflection folder: Reflection Folder Checklist folder is due at the beginning of lab the following week.  Here's an example of the Contents of the Reflection Folder.
