PowerPoint 2002 includes a title master and a slide master for each design template.
To add a slide master to an existing presentation:
- select the slides in the tabbed area.
- Format | Slide Design.
- In the Side Design Task pane, rest your mouse pointer over the design template you would like until a drop-down arrow appears.
- Click the drop-down list arrow and click apply to selected slides (or apply to all slides). When you apply a template to the selected slides, powerpoint automatically adds a slide and title master for the new template to your presentation.
To view the masters:
- View, Master | Slide Master.
- You can switch between the title and slide masters (and display the masters for a different template) by clicking the associated thumbnails on the Slide Tab.
To manually add a master to the presentation:
- Display the Slide Master View toolbar: . View, Master | Slide Master.
- On the slide master view toolbar, click "Insert New Slide Master".
To retain a master after the slides have been deleted:
- Select it in the tabbed area.
- Display the Slide Master View toolbar: . View, Master | Slide Master.
- On the Slide Master View toolbar, click the "Preserve Master" button.
- You'll see the Pin icon appear next to the master slides.
To remove a preserved slide master:
- Click on the "Preserve Master" button again.
To disable the ability to save multiple slide masters (since earlier versions of PowerPoint don't support them):
- Tools | Options | Edit Tab.
- In the Disable New Features area, put a check next to the Multiple Masters box.
