• Click the Tools | Options.
• In the Options dialog box, click the Security tab.
• Type your password in the field to the right of Password To Open. (The password is case sensitive!).
• If you click the Advanced button, you can choose from a number of different encryption methods, making your password harder to break. Click OK to set the password.

• Choose File | File Search.
• In the Basic Search task pane, you can send Excel looking in any drives or folders for the magic phrase or number.
• Enter the text you’re looking for in the Search Text box. The program is smart enough to look for common variations of words. So if you enter inventory, it will also turn up words such as inventories..
• To specify where the search takes place, click the drop-down arrow for the Search In box and then click the plus (+) and minus (-) signs to expand and collapse folder views.
• Click the boxes next to the ones you want Excel to search.
• To speed up the search, click the drop-down arrow for the Results Should Be box and click the appropriate boxes to limit the results to Excel files only.

Use "Quarterly*" to search for Quarterly Reports or Quarterly Updates. Use "THX*" to search for "THX318".

• Select the first cell in a range.
• Hold down the shift key/click last cell.

• Move the cell pointer downward through a selected range by pressing ENTER.
• move the pointer upward (or left) by pressing SHIFT-ENTER.
• To move from left to right within a range, press TAB.
• To move from right to left, press SHIFT-TAB.
• to move from corner to corner within a selected, contiguous range, press CTRL and the period (.) key.

• Format a workbook as you like it and save it in the XLStart folder as Book.xlt. (You should find XLStart within your overall Office folder.).
• You can open and modify this template just as you would any other Excel workbook. .
• If you decide you want a different template for default documents, save a new document with the Book.xlt name.
• Delete Book.xlt to revert to Excel’s defaults.

• Format the workbook.
• File | As, select template as file type (.xlt).
• To use the template, File | New | Templates | On My Computer.

• Select the block of data and choose Copy.
• Go to the first cell in the destination block, click the arrow beside Paste, and choose Transpose.
• The data that was in the top cell of a column becomes the first cell in a row running off to the right.
• If the data was in a row, the first cell in the horizontal row becomes the top of the column.
