CALS 183 Communication Methods Lecture Outline, Lecture Two.

Please put away all electronic devices (lap tops, cell phones, Blackberrys, I-Pods, etc.) and take out something to write with and paper.

Today's attendance speech (15-30 seconds, line up, concentrate on your posture): Name (pause breathe), where you get your current events/news coverage?

  1. Practice your dramatic reading or informational presentation in front of others and get feedback (Dramatic Readings beginning this week!).
  2. Finish Reading Present Yourself, Chapters 4-10.  Quiz on Present Yourself will be next week, Sept 21/23 in lecture.  Be on time or lose points.
  3. Get Flash Memory stick (2+ Gigs) and bring to lab if you are presenting your Dramatic Reading.
  4. Select a topic for your Informational Presentation.
  5. Check Syllabus speaking schedule for when you are reading and your lab role.
  6. Outside Speech Critique assignment.  UVM lecture calendar site.
  7. Class Attendance Policy from syllabus: "You are expected to come to all lecture and lab classes and be in your seat a few minutes early, participate, and stay the entire class time.   Unexcused lateness or absences of either lecture or lab will lead to a 1% reduction in your final course grade for each absence or lateness.  No students have earned an A in this course who have had more than two unexcused absencesAthletes are excused only for Varsity Games (and work is expected to be made up within one week).  If you are late, you will be marked absent. Absences are excused only in cases of extreme sickness, death in your immediate family, or other extreme documented circumstances.  In such circumstances, notify the CALS Deans office (Rose Laba, rlaba@uvm.edu, 656-0289 who will contact Prof. Leonard with an official excuse), Dr. Leonard, and your lab TA within 24 hours of missing class."
